WEEKEND TUNES #8

One of the reasons I find electronic/house/dubstep music so appealing is that it can be made and remade a seemingly infinite amount of times. I am still always struck when I hear diametric opposites like the Avicii and Glitch Mob remixes of “Derezzed”, both of which are based off of the same Tron-inspired Daft Punk song, but take the track in entirely different directions.

The reason I am going on about remixes is because this week’s edition of Weekend Tunes is packed with them. If there is a common theme to many of these tracks, it is the introduction of heavy house beats to otherwise very progressive tracks: the Landis remix of Alesso & Sebastian Ingrosso’s “Calling” replaces Alesso’s high-energy drop with a much deeper house beat; likewise, the Scully & Wiseman remix of Avicii’s “Levels 2″ drops in a ferocious, multipolar sound that completely reinvents the song. Rawr.
